  My Experience With Writing

My experience with writing has been a bit mixed throughout the years, but since starting college, I feel as though writing has become my strong point academically.  A big part of the reason I enjoy writing is that I have a much easier time with writing than I do when trying to solve math problems, or do anything scientific, and so on.  Writing has always made more sense to me than any kind of mathematical concepts, and as such, I've decided to make it my Major.  I started in Computer Science when I first came to CNU in 2018, but after I learned that Comp Sci required high level math classes, and after attempting Calculus twice and failing both times, I decided I needed to change.  Unfortunately, I attempted to pursue a Biology degree during one semester of my Sophomore year, and the resounding failure of that decision finally pushed me to go for an English degree.  Thankfully, this appears to have been the right choice for me, and I was able to somewhat resurrect my GPA from the damage caused by faffing about in departments I wasn't prepared for.

Why I Chose to Take ENGL 339

To put it bluntly, I mainly chose to take ENGL 339 because it was one of the only courses offered this semester that I still needed to take for the 18 credit requirement of the English degree.  There was such little choice for classes meeting my requirements this semester that Dr. Wright ended up allowing ENGL 356 (Film, Theory & Culture) to count towards the 18 credits.  Without this, I would likely have ended up needing to take multiple writing intensive courses alongside my Capstone course next semester in order to finally graduate.  That being said, even though I'm in this course as a requirement, I am very much looking forward to being able to work more closely on improving various aspects of my writing; namely, sentence structure.  I tend to have an easier time writing longer sentences for whatever reason, and this usually leads me to rely heavily on semicolons and the like.  Although I feel quite comfortable in general with writing, this class is the first opportunity I've had in awhile to actually go more in depth with sentence structure, and I'm looking forward to improving my writing in any way possible.  I likely won't end up working in the Writing Center during my last semester, but being taught how to help others out with their own writing will most definitely be beneficial.

Goal(s)

I reckon that my main goal this semester would be to keep up with all my courses, and try to maintain As in every course.  Now that I'm in my 5th year here at CNU, I guess I would say I'm in "survival mode".  My time spent dawdling in Computer Science and Biology set me back a good deal, and I've left myself at the point where I need to be pretty close to perfect in all of my classes; or at minimum, don't fail any.  Now that I'm done with all my General Education requirements, I'm confident that I can achieve this goal, so long as I don't get complacent and lose track of assignments.
